Make Peace President Given Adoption Excellence Award
Author and Make Peace With Animals' President Cynthia Branigan has received the first Joan Dillon Award for Adoption Excellence. The award, was presented by Greyhound Pets of America, the nation's largest Greyhound adoption agency. Branigan's first book Adopting the Racing Greyhound (John Wiley and Sons), is widely regarded as having launched the retired racing Greyhound adoption movement worldwide. It is now in its Third Edition and has sold over 100,000 copies. She has previously been honored with a Maxwell Award from the Dog Writers Association of America for her book The Reign of the Greyhound: A Popular History of the Oldest Family of Dogs, and the Pioneer Award by The Greyhound Project for her many contributions to the welfare of retired racers. Branigan's name is engraved on a large silver bowl which is on display at the Greyhound Hall of Fame in Abilene, Kansas. She is the first person unconnected with the racing industry to be honored in the museum. |

For Immediate Release Shoreline Star Greyhound Park As a result of the recent change in ownership at Shoreline Star there will be no live racing in 2006. The Shoreline Star Pups Without Partners Adoption Program coordinated by Penny Zwart remains fully operational. There are twenty-three greyhounds currently housed in the Shoreline kennel compound most of which have already been spoken for. If there are any greyhounds remaining in the program as of May 1st they will be relocated to the on-sight kennel at the track as the kennel compound lease expires at the end of this month. |
