All of us are shocked and distraught by images we have seen on television of the human suffering in the Gulf Region as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
Many of us are equally distraught about the suffering of our animal brethren. Animals by the tens of thousands are homeless, yet scant coverage is given to their plight.
Some are on rooftops, some are in trees. Some are chained in their backyards, or on porches. Some are locked in flooded houses or are frantically running alongside flooded highways. Some were abandoned by their owners as they evacuated to safety. Some were torn by wind or water from their owner's protective grip. Perhaps worst of all, some owners were forced to make the awful decision to leave their beloved pets behind as charity workers told them that help was available only for human victims.
None of these animals have food or water. Some are injured, or are dying of exposure. All need our help.

At this very moment, their workers are canvassing neighborhoods, gathering as many dogs, cats, and other creatures, as they can. They will attempt to reunite as many animals as possible with their owners. The others will be put up for adoption.
Please remember the animals when you are making a hurricane relief donation. They are suffering, too.
