Special guest, Heather Stranere, NCTMB, a Board Certified massage therapist, taught us about canine massage. A former instructor of massage at the Pennsylvania Institute of Massage Therapy, Heather earned her certification as a Canine Practioner in Massage through the Integrated Touch Therapy for Animals program.
Mandy Armitage, Veterinary Chiropractitioner of Amalyn's Topline Wellness, was our guest speaker on January 9, 2005 and taught us all about chiropractic treatment in dogs.

Mandy has helped some of our own Greyhounds lead a more active, pain-free life, especially our amputees and those with various spine/neck problems.
Thank you, Mandy, for a wonderful demonstration! We hope you'll come back to see us again! The attendees enjoyed meeting you, took home very useful information about the spine and the balance it creates within the body and best of all some of our canine attendees even benefited from your gentle manipulation.
---------------------------------------------------------------------As you can see in the photo to the left, both human and canine attendees attentively watched as Mandy performed gentle spinal manipulation on Looker. Sweetie (brindle female on blanket in front right in photo) relaxed comfortably after one of her beneficial regular treatments by Mandy. And it looked like Flyer (white with black male standing near center and curiously watching Looker) wanted to be adjusted, too. Fortunately for him, he had his chance also!
(Note: Uncaptured in photos, Keeper's eyes lit up and he jumped to his feet when he saw the huge "bone" (the canine model) that he thought his buddy Mandy had brought just for him!)

The benefits of obedience training for your greyhound

Linda is an experienced dog agility trainer and competitor, a dog obedience instructor, and a parrot trainer. Along with various other pets, she has adopted several retired racing greyhounds herself. She trains using operant conditioning—clicker training—a non-force, all positive training method. Linda teaches general dog training classes as well as greyhound-only classes at Petsmart in Montgomeryville.

Linda spoke to a nice crowd on the benefits of obedience training our greyhounds. Attendees learned how to have a better understanding of our dogs and their behavior. We learned what our dogs do and don't understand when it comes to trying to change any undesirable behavior they may have. She talked about the importance of earning the trust of our dogs so they will look to us for guidance so that we can keep them safe in any situation that may arise. And she demonstrated the use of reward-based, clicker training. Bea, a past client of Linda's, brought laughter to the room when she jumped up excitedly at the first sound of the familiar clicker noise at the other end of the room.
