Palm Beach Kennel Club donates $100,000 for Katrina relief

Palm Beach Kennel Club has pledged at least $100,000 to several Hurricane Katrina relief projects.   Checks will be presented to the groups below on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 11:30 a.m. in the Paddock Restaurant at PB Kennel Club.
PBKC will make check presentations to:
The American Red Cross-$36,500
Catholic Charities-$36,500
Greyhound Pets of America/National-$10,000
The Kennel Club donated $17,000 last week to purchase equipment and supplies for the distribution camp.  The check was used to buy generators, tents, canopies, fans, shelves, tables & chairs, lights, fencing, grills, icemakers and more.  On Saturday night, the NR group set up camp and has been distributing items and serving hot meals to victims' non-stop.
PBKC is a drop off site for food, supplies and donations.  These donations will fuel a distribution camp near Picayune, Mississippi.  After just a few days, customers and employees have already contributed $2,570 in cash / checks and 27 cases of water and 25 boxes of food, baby items, and personal items.  The funds and items will be delivered to the NR Camp every week or so.  These efforts will continue as long as it is necessary.
PBKC is looking to help two families who are relocating to PB County through St. Ignatius Outreach.  PBKC will assist with rent, utilities, food, etc. and offer employment at the Kennel Club or with business associates.  Families who have inquired about assistance are currently being interviewed.
The Kennel Club will continue to monitor relief efforts and assist with projects when there is a need.
